Padres welcome back Yu Darvish for meeting with Tigers

Padres showing interest in Darvish after missing out on Verlander

The San Diego Padres are reportedly showing interest in free-agent pitcher Yu Darvish, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The Padres missed out on Justin Verlander, who signed a two-year, $86 million deal with the New York Mets on Monday.

Darvish, 36, is coming off a strong season with the Chicago Cubs, where he went 16-8 with a 3.94 ERA in 32 starts.

Padres need pitching help after missing out on Verlander

The Padres have a need for pitching help after trading away Mike Clevinger and Sean Manaea during the offseason.

Darvish would be a solid addition to the Padres' rotation, which also includes Joe Musgrove, Blake Snell, and Nick Martinez.

Darvish has a history of success

Darvish has a career record of 189-118 with a 3.45 ERA in 12 seasons in the majors.

He has been an All-Star six times and has finished in the top 10 in Cy Young Award voting three times.

Padres are a contender in the NL West

The Padres are coming off a season in which they won 90 games and reached the NL Championship Series.

They are looking to take the next step and win the World Series in 2023.

Adding Darvish to their rotation would give them a boost in their quest for a championship.
