Former First Lady Releases Statement
Former President Donald Trump and former first lady Melania Trump mourned the loss of her mother, Amalija Knavs, at a private funeral in Florida. Melania Trump released a statement in the hours after a gunman attempted to shoot and kill her. The statement read, "My mother was a kind and loving woman, and she will be deeply missed."
Amalija Knavs was 94 years old. She died on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at her home in Sevnica, Slovenia. The cause of death was not immediately released.
Melania Trump is not on the list of announced convention headliners and keynote speakers. She is however still expected to attend the convention.
The funeral was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Palm Beach, Florida. The service was attended by close family and friends.
Melania Trump's mother was a pillar of her community. She was a devoted wife and mother, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
