Diamondbacks' Pfaadt Pitches Effective Outing in 5-1 Win Over A's

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Brandon Pfaadt pitched six effective innings and Jake Alexander delivered a key hit as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Oakland Athletics 5-1 on Friday night at Scottsdale Stadium.

Pfaadt (1-0), the Diamondbacks' top pitching prospect, allowed one run on four hits and struck out three batters in his longest outing of the spring. Alexander, who hit a game-tying home run in the fifth inning, singled home the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to put Arizona ahead 2-1.

The Diamondbacks added three insurance runs in the eighth inning, including a two-run home run by Pavin Smith. Taylor Widener pitched the ninth inning for the save.
